Welcome Back

Hi welcome back to all the members of Westelele especially our new players for 2019. Our first meeting of the year was full of enthusiasm and encouragement as the group successfully learned a new song ‘Teenage Kicks’ by The Undertones.

Each week we will learn a new song building up a repertoire and gradually we will find the strengths of each of the players within the group. We are concentrating on chords and a few tabs at the moment but we will get the vocal chords moving soon.

Go to the LESSONS page to download the latest song and the C scale tab if you don’t have them. Next lesson is Saturday 19th of January 2pm – 3pm Westport Town Hall Theatre.

See you there!

Have a Ukelele Christmas

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to our members for their involvement with Westelele so far, we will be back on Saturday 12th of January 2019 at the Town hall Theatre Westport for our next meeting.

Already there is a marked improvement in the playing and great hear to hear those vocal chords as well. Westelele will be a fun project for everyone in 2019!

We hope that those who missed the recent classes will be back in the New Year. There will be more new members joining but please spread the word as we will always open our doors to new people.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Lessons page for songs, chords etc.

Christmas Songs

Aloha, Sláinte to all members,

We have started working on songs for the first time and hope to perform as early as next week. We know it is soon  but it’s important that everyone dips their feet into performance as early as possible to keep the momentum and excitement of the group.

Next Saturday December 15th is our last Westelele meeting of the year and the following day Sunday 16th we shall be performing at Spraoi Na Nollaig for around 20 mins. We are not on the poster as we had a late invitation.

If you go to the LESSONS page on the website and download Christmas and New Chords then all of you who missed will be up to date.

Thanks again for another great turnout and a big welcome to our new members.

Regards

David Dee Moore

Westelele Up and Running!

Aloha, Sláinte,

We are delighted with the great turnout for the first lesson, well done to everyone involved and we are not surprised at all with the high standard. We have the makings of a great Ukulele Orchestra!

We are also getting close to Christmas so we will be learning a Christmas song or two for the next 2 weeks as we have been invited to play at the Spraoi Na Nollaig in the Town Hall Theatre Westport on Sunday December 16th.

It’ll only be around 20 mins so don’t panic as we will play only a couple of songs together with a few solo spots from the more experienced members of the group.

The next lesson is on Saturday 8th of December 2pm on the 2nd floor of The Town Hall Theatre.

Westelele News

Aloha/Sláinte,

A big thank to all the attendees at the inaugural meeting of ‘Westelele’ in helping to establish and create our new orchestra here in Westport, Co.Mayo.

The standard of musicianship was really good and we are excited to move forward to create this great community project.

We must apologise for the genuine mix up in rooms which was entirely out of everybodys’ hands. We hope those who couldn’t make it, will join us next week. We also want to thank Rosaleen and the gang at Westport Town Hall Theatre for the facilities and generosity in getting our project up and running.

If anyone would like a copy of the hand-out please go to Lessons page and you can save the PDF. Don’t worry as we will continually go over each lesson in future classes.

A big thank you also to Collins Music Store in bringing ukeleles and accessories for the participants to try out. We must stress that you will need to bring your own ukulele to further meetings and if you have difficulty in getting one or need help in purchasing an instrument then please email us here at info@westelel.ie or ring 086 8752070 and we can try to help you out.

This class is for all participants and any ideas for future songs etc will be favourably accepted. We want everyone to enjoy playing and performing the ukulele. Please also spread the word to anyone you may think would enjoy joining our group.

The next meeting will take place at 2pm -3pm on Saturday December 1st at The Town Hall Theatre Westport on the 2nd Floor – a notice will be in placed on the ground floor.

Each session will cost €10 or €5 euro for Students and OAPs.

Looking forward to strumming with you.
